Group C
Sudan had waited 32 years to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations finals but their dream soon turned to a nightmare as Zambia scored the fastest goal of the tournament. James Chamanga scored in the second minute. They went on to beat Sudan by 3-0 with goals by Jacob Mulenga (51 mins) and Felix Katongo (60 mins).
The holders Egypt outplayed Cameroon in the first half and deserved their win, which places them second in Group C, behind Zambia on goal difference.
Two goals each from Mohamed Zidan and Hosni Abd Rabou gave Egypt a convincing start to the tournament as Cameroon seemed slow off the blocks. Samuel Eto’o scored twice in the second half but the Pharoahs never looked in trouble.
