Arsenal and Liverpool produced a thrilling game of football at the Emirates this afternoon. The game ended as a 1-1 draw, but there were chances throughout the game of end to end football.
Both managers started with players rested for the Champions League second leg, on paper much weaker teams than can be expected to play in that game. It looked as though it would backfire for Wenger in the early part of the game as Liverpool started well.
It surprised me to see so much space given by both teams in midfield, for most of the game the ball by passed midfield as both teams chose to use pace to attack at breathtaking speed.
Liverpool seemed to pose more danger in their attacking manoeuvres, with Peter Crouch causing problems for the Arsenal defence. And it was Crouch who opened the scoring just before half time, Liverpool hoofing a long ball out of defence during a particularly good spell of pressure from Arsenal, Crouch turning and shooting from outside the box.
Bendtner equalised for Arsenal outjumping Crouch to head home a free kick. Both teams had plenty of opportunities to win the game, but in the end, once again there was nothing in it.
