Another shock result in the Premier League tonight as Aston villa beat Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield.  They not only beat Liverpool, they deserved the victory and Liverpool were poor.  Their passing was very sloppy, and they looked bereft of ideas.

This result follows other shock results in the first couple of weeks of the new Premier League season: Manchester United losing to newly promoted Burnley 1-0 and Arsenal thrashing Everton 5-0.

This is the first time AstonVilla have beaten Liverpool in eight years; and though Liverpool had three times the amount of shots over the course of 94 minutes, they didn’t look a threat after the first five.

Yes, they missed Xabi Alonso but it was more than that.  Once they went behind they didn’t seem to have a plan or method to breaking down Aston Villa as they played a great game of counter-attack. When the game looked out of reach Liverpool brought on Voronin.  I was shocked to see him in a Liverpool shirt again after being loaned out last season.  But watching him run around the pitch, the words ‘headless’ and ‘chicken’ come to mind!

Only Arsenal, Tottenham & Chelsea remain unbeaten in the Premier League.

Liverpool had an off-night and Aston Villa had a good game.  But there seemed to be no fight in the way that Liverpool approached the game as soon as they went 1-0 down.

After losing at Tottenham, this defeat means with only three games played Liverpool have already lost the same amount of games this season, as they did throughout the whole of last season.
