The Women’s Premier League champions Arsenal have beaten Leeds in the Women’s FA Cup final at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground, in front of an excited 25,000 crowd.
A combination of poor finishing and an excellent performance from Leeds goalkeeper Carly Telford kept the score at 0-0 at half time. But three goals in six minutes for Arsenal left Leeds too much to do and gave Arsenal a record ninth FA Cup triumph.
Leeds kept trying and eventually scored in the 68th minute. But any chance of an amazing comeback was quoshed by a second Kelly Smith goal in the 83rd minutes.
Arsenal have dominated Women’s club football in England for a long time. This is their seventh FA Cup & League double.
