Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is thought to be interested in off loading the club only a few months after buying it for £130 million.
Ashley’s agents have approached DIC, the Dubai based consortium that are still thought to be interested in buying Liverpool, but at the the asking price of £300 million the consortium were not interested.
However a local consortium, reported to be led by Alan Shearer have shown some interest in acquiring the club at a figure of around £250 million. Shearer has not confirmed his involvement with the group, but the Daily Telegraph reports that they have been in touch with the former player.
“They’re from the North East. What they want from Alan is not his money but his support, his blessing.”
After a pitiful season for the Magpies they find themselves being sucked into the relegation dog fight, yet the value of the club has practically doubled. How does that work, exactly?
