A group of Barcelona fans, led by lawyer Oriol Giralt are to submit a ‘motion of censure’, asking for the resignation of Joan Laporta and the board of directors.
The news comes just hours after Laporta announced that Frank Rijkaard would be replaced by Josep Guardiola at the end of the current season.
“The disappointment is total” said fans spokesman and leader Giralt, adding “If in a few days they resign, perhaps history would not judge them badly.”
Giralt will need an estimated 7,000 signatures, 5% of the clubs members, and has 14 days to collect them and prepare a petition proper.
Should he succeed, the motion will move to the next stage where if he gets more than two thirds of the votes, Laporta will be forced to call an election in which he can not run.
