The Benjani transfer controversy seems to be about to boil over, with Manchester City claiming that the deal cannot go ahead. The News of the world reports that City are seeking legal advice over a row with Portsmouth over a “signing off” fee.
Meanwhile City manager Sven Goran-Eriksson is reported in the mail as saying “I want him here, and he wants to come.” Adding that he expected the situation to be resolved by Monday or Tuesday.
In a strange twist to the story it seems that Portsmouth have signed Jermain Defoe on loan. The Sunday Mirror claims that the player arrived at Fratton Park on loan, although the club has said that the deal will be made permanent in days, as they have an obligation to buy.
So just who owns who? It will be interesting to see how things pan out.
