Paul Ince has been appointed as the new manager at Blackburn following Mark Hughes move to Manchester City earlier in the month.

Blackburn say they have been thorough in their search for a new boss and that Paul Ince has come out on top of the list, club chairman John Williams declaring “I think he will prove to be an outstanding manager.”

Ince has, in this last season, led MK Dons to promotion from League Two, after having performed a minor miracle in saving Macclesfield from certain relegation in the previous campaign.

Despite being short of the compulsory UEFA Pro Licence, the LMA have promised their full backing to Ince, who will work with them over the next two years to qualify for the coaching badge.

Paul Ince becomes the first black British manager in Premier League history, prompting Piara Power of anti-racism organisation Kick It Out to remark “This is a refreshing appointment.”

“Although Paul Ince has been given the job solely on the basis of what he can bring to Blackburn Rovers, we hope he can be an inspiration to the many other black players leaving the game and a signal to chairman across the leagues that they too should be looking at black coaching talent.”

Hunger and desire are things that Ince has shown throughout his playing career and in his recent successes at managerial level, there is absolutely no reason why he cannot continue that in the Premier league.

Mark Hughes did wonders at Blackburn over the past few years and I expect Ince to lever himself in gently, talk some of his staff into staying with the club and continuing to build his own career along with maintaining Blackburn’s steady progress at the top level.
