Yesterday’s 1-0 win over Portsmouth sent Chelsea to the top of the Premiership table. Is that where they are going to stay until next May?
Though their display was very unconvincing and Portsmouth were unlucky not to force the draw, there was an air of inevitability about a 1-0 win. Suggestions that Morinho’s team were going express themselves and play more attractive football this season appear to have vanished already. The opening day spectacle against Birmingham has been replaced by the boring boring Chelsea of last season.
That said, if they carry on grinding out dull, lifeless 1-0 wins for the rest of the season, it will make for hard viewing but a pleasing spectacle for fans of the Blues next May, as they snatch the Premiership back from Old Trafford.
