Manchester United have voiced fears that their prize asset, Cristiano Ronaldo, could be forced to quit the Premier League due to the lack of protection he receives from referees.
Sir Alex Ferguson has described recent attemps to hinder the 24-year old’s performance as ’systematic fouling’, claiming that it is a tactic of other Premiership clubs to hack Ronaldo down.
With all the speculation over the summer linking the portuguese winger with a move to Real Madrid, we could well see Cristiano Ronaldo come to the end of his tether and jump ships in the coming transfer window.
But who is really to blame for the treatment Ronaldo receives in the Premier League? Anyone who saw his petulant display on Saturday, huffing and puffing at every decision that didn’t go his way, will feel slightly nauseous.
Along with Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo showed minimal respect for the match officail Phil Dowd, who made excellent decisions in a feisty game.
The Premiership is renowned for being the most physical league in Europe. Perhaps if Ronaldo can’t cope with that then English fans will be glad to see the back of his on-pitch pantomime antics.
