Hey, I’m very much one for going through life, going with the flow, letting life decide for me whats going to happen next, but when is the England manager going to have to do the opposite and make a decision that’s not already been made for him?
With today’s news that Emile Heskey is out for 6 weeks and as such is extremely unlikely to feature for England’s next two Euro 2008 qualifying games against Estonia and Russia, it hands on a plate the opportunity to dodge the thorny issue of a Rooney or Heskey situation. It’s ironic that the very reason an England recall happened for Heskey could also see his downfall. There is no doubting the big number nine was certainly impressive in his return after a three year absence, whether McClaren would have picked him in the squad let alone the starting XI had it not been for an array of injuries.
I suppose it’s unfair to accuse McClaren of not being able to make decisions, he proved it when he took over he could in Beckham, James and Campbell. Time will tell, maybe he’ll make that decision that everyone thinks is crazy and be actually applauded for it when it comes off, but in the meantime I’ll stick to going with the flow almost as much as I guess the England manager does.
