Derby County put the pride into Pride Park after their thrashing at Chelsea last week. The Rams showed a stubborn resistance to the strength of Manchester United and for 75 minutes looked as though they might cause the biggest upset of the day.
Derby harried United and also played some good passing football throughout the game, and could so easily have been leading at half time but for the excellent goal keeping of Ben Foster.
United also had their chances and in fairness the finishing of Ryan Giggs and Christiano Ronaldo was some way off what we have come to expect. Ronaldo in particular was close to tears when he mishit his fourth attempt at goal, narrowly missing the target. But minutes later he volleyed in a cross from Rooney at close range and that was it.
Credit to Derby though, who made a game of it when it was least expected.
Final score Derby County 0 - Man Utd 1
United move top of the Premiership, with Arsenal playing Middlesborough in todays late kick off.
