Derby To Face United Next

John Williams - Thursday 13.03.08, 14:31pm

I bet Paul Jewell can’t wait until the weekend. After a sound thrashing from Chelsea last night, Jewell’s Derby County, face the might of Manchester United at Pride Park on Saturday.

Mr Angry had his United team in for training on Monday, as penance for getting knocked out of the FA cup, by upstarts Portsmouth, and someone is going to feel the backlash.

I was surprised that Ferguson had called his troops in for a vigorous training session, when after all it was the referee that cost United the game. The big man said so himself.

None the less, Derby will be wishing the season was already over, they know that they will be relegated and could do without any more humiliation. Jewell referred to last nights mauling as “Men against boys”, but things may have been different but for the injury to veteran defender Alan Stubbs.

Derby held firm for 25 minutes, before conceding a penalty, and were only two down at half time, not bad considering the huge gap between the haves and have nots of the Premier League.

Paul Jewell is a genuine  and likable manager and Derby should bounce straight back up, but in the meantime I wish him the best of luck for Saturdays game. He needs all the help he can get!

Manchester united will collect goal bonus from Derby and continue its advance in the league. It is the time to hold the title for united as trends show the condition.
