Didier Drogba eager to partner Nicolas Anelka

Terry Lane - Tuesday 15.01.08, 13:51pm

According to ITV.com, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is eager to strike up a partnership with Nicolas Anelka and believes the pair will ‘terrify’ defenders.  He made his Chelsea debut coming on as a second half substitute on Saturday against Tottenham and made an immiediate impact as he hit the woodwork twice.

Anelka has already suggested that the two powerful strikers would complement each other’s game to form a lethal strike pairing.  Something Drogba agrees with.

“Anelka is a good forward, but he will only complement me rather than fighting for the position with me,” he told The Sun.

“I want to see a great Chelsea attack and his inclusion only makes us stronger.

Personally, I still don’t see these two strikers forming a great relationship on or off the pitch; and I still believe Anelka has been bought by Chelsea over other available strikers in the transfer window as a long term replacement for Didier Drogba.

Nicolas Anelka has played for eight teams with two spells at Paris Saint-German and played 43 times for France.  While playing for several of the biggest clubs in Europe he has earnt himself the nickname “Le Sulk”. He has also played for Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton and Chelsea in the Premier League, Paris Saint-Germain, Fenerbahce and Real Madrid.

The move to Chelsea makes him the most expensive footballer in history with combined transfer fees of £85 million, beating the previous record of £77m for Juan Sebastian Veron, the former Argentina midfielder.
