England need Fabio Capello’s discipline

Terry Lane - Saturday 24.05.08, 14:27pm

Fabio Capello - England Football ManagerFabio Capello, in his first interview to be given in English, stamped his authority on whether the nine selected England players from Chelsea and Manchester United would travel with the rest of the squad for the upcoming internationals this week against the United States and Trindad & Tobago.

In an interview for BBC’s Football Focus Capello made it clear it would be his decision, and no one elses.

Capello stated that Manchester United and Chelsea players will report for England today. While David Beckham will report on Sunday after LA Galaxy’s game with Kansas City.

In the interview, Capello made it clear the England squad need to pull together.

“We are one England team and we wear one England shirt.”

I am so impressed with the way Fabio Capello has addressed the players and made it known that there will be no pushing or playing him around. It reminds me of past managers such as Brian Clough and Bill Shankly. Capello’s authoritarian style of management, coupled with his philosophy of not giving big name players automatic first team rights is just what England’s prima donna golden boys need. There is no mistaking that the England players lack of discipline has been part of the reason why such good players have failed to impress in recent tournaments.

Flip flops and WAGS are now off limits; and if Capello can get England to be a disciplined unit on the pitch as well as off it, then maybe, just maybe this England team can live up to expectations in the next World Cup.

It is about time England had somebody like Capello at the helm. For so long I think that the players have been ill disciplined, disrespectful, uninterested and not worthy of putting on the three lions shirt. This isn’t the case with all of the players,ie Beckham, but they have not shown the fans the passion that should be shown when playing for your country.I might be wrong and we could possibly be less technically astute than other nations but whatever happens now under Capello can surely only be good things.Optimistic? I like to think so!

I agree with the previous comment from Andy. I like the idea that he is his own man doing it is own way. He has my respect.
