No one wants to be seeded for next years’ Euro 2008 as the top European country, according to a Talksport listener; and this is why.
The draw for the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland will take place on 2 December in Lucerne, Switzerland. The competing countries will be divided into four pots. Each group will include one of the four countries finishing with the most amount of points. The top team will be placed along with the holders, Greece and the home nations Austria and Switzerland in pot #1. Whoever wins the accolade to be placed in pot #1 as the top European team, will not play what most would agree to be the weakest teams in the tournament (Greece, Austria and Switzerland) in the knock out phase.
Yesterday Macedonia and Croatia were nil-nil at half-time, with Croatia looking comfortable. Israel had beaten Russia 2-1, therefore Croatia had qualified and were at that stage possibly heading for the dreaded pot #1. Oddly enough, Macedonia scored two late goals, and now Croatia look qualified and safe.
If this cpnspiracy is true, the next team to watch is Holland, who are away to Belarus next Wednesday. A foregone conclusion you would think. An away win by some considerable goal tally, you would possibly agree. But if that is the case, Holland are likely to be placed in pot #1 along with Greece, Switzerland and Austria.
The countries that have already qualified include: Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Croatia, Holland, Italy, Spain, France Czech Republic, Germany and Romania.
Does no one want to win their qualifying groups? Only time will tell. But what are the odds for Holland to lose in Belarus?
