Watching Match Of The Day yesterday it was good to see Jermaine Defoe score on his debut for Portsmouth against Chelsea. I still can’t workout why Defoe was so out of favour with successive Tottenham managers, though I have read that his arrogant temperament has always been an issue, even as a young schoolboy with Charlton and West Ham.
But the highlight of the game was a new and amusing chant from the Portsmouth fans aimed squarely at Ashley Cole, another player known for his arrogant streak.
For those old enough to remember the first two lines of the 1970’s Middle Of The Road pop song Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep - ‘Where’s your mama gone?, where’s your mama gone?’ the Portsmouth fans were barracking Cole with “Where has Cheryl gone? Where has Cheryl gone?’
If we are to believe what we read in the gutter press, then I would say it is hard, but fair!
