Having watched the Blackburn v Liverpool game yesterday I find it difficult to understand the Rovers fans disappointment with the job that Paul Ince is doing at the club. Of course every football manager is judged on results and seeing your team drop into the bottom three is not a great feeling.
But for most of yesterdays game Blackburn were equal to Liverpool, closing down the midfield and playing some delightful and determined football, and leaving me to think that Rafael Benitez should be more concerned about his future as the Reds once again failed to light up the game. The difference in the teams in the end, came down to Liverpool’s sharper finishing and Blackburn’s search for an equaliser leaving gaping holes for the counter attack.
On this evidence Paul Ince is doing a fine job and is justifiably proud of his teams performance in today’s press, whether it will be enough for the Blackburn board who will view it as three points lost, only time will tell, but I believe he should be given more time.
Seeing Liverpool substitute Robbie Keane warming up on the touchline on two occasions and yet still not being used puzzled me somewhat. Twice Benitez made substitutions other than Keane despite the fact that he had been told – I presume- to warm up. The ultimate snub from Benitez?
It has started the gossip going already as Keane is allegedly the target of his old club Spurs, with Harry Redknapp expecting to pick up the prodigal player for a fraction of the 20million Liverpool paid for him in the summer. That should go down like a lead balloon at White Hart Lane.
