Gavin Peacock To Study Religion In Canada

John Williams - Tuesday 27.05.08, 11:13am

The former Chelsea and Newcastle midfielder turned TV pundit Gavin Peacock, will emigrate to Canada after the Euro 2008 finals, to study religion.

Peacock has been a Christian since his days at Queens Park Rangers, when he held bible class for other players at the age of nineteen. More recently he has become a frequent speaker at church events and has preached at his local Anglican church. This year heĀ  has presented the Songs Of Praise TV programme.

Peacock has been studying for a BA in Theology at Ridley Hall, a college in Cambridge, since September last year.

The Peacock family will move to Canada once the Euro finals are over, and Gavin will start a three year Masters course in Divinity at Ambrose Seminary, a leading theological college. He will become a pastor, vicar or minister depending on which denomination he chooses to follow.

AC Milan’s Brazilian superstar Kaka revealed last year that he would follow religion when his playing days are over, saying that he hoped to become a minister.

Fair play to him. If he believed Newcastle might win something when he was a player there, he will clearly believe anything.

Here in NA, he may just become a Pastafarian and join the ever-popular Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Which can always use another midfielder. Or was that middle-of-the-roader?

Good Lord Gav, can you pray for Chelsea under the Dark One Peter Kenynon, as he came from the Hell of United to tempt and squander the Heaven of old Chelsea.

    Gavin,
You are a good man and what you are doing is good because God is good. God bless you, I love you, you have inspired me to think not of my own personal gain but of doing the good work of the Lord.

Jesus saves, but Peacock scores from the rebound.

He obviously hasn’t realised yet that God doesn’t exist. Maybe Lee Dixon could go and work with Father Christmas or Mark Lawrenson could go and work with the Tooth Fairy.

I’m gutted - Football Focus will never have that same sex appeal again- looking forward to that gorgeous bald head and those fab eyes will be on that screen no more - guess I’ll have to record all apearances in Euro 08 for posterity

Why all the sneering? Good luck to him if it’s what he wants. Mr Bowles - the original was Pearson (Manxchester United) nets the rebound, which makes it thirty years old if it’s a day.

    Edward -

No, the orginal was St John (Liverpool) nets the rebound, which was another 10 years earlier - and also funnier
