Fabio Capello – What a guy.
In the past four games England have finally looked like what the press, the fans and the media claim the England team is – world class. Is Capello the reason and is this finally problem solved?
Capello certainly seems to have quickly got to grips with the long standing England problems. He has not so much killed two birds with one stone but solved two problems in one fell swoop. The much debated and problematic left midfield position for England looks as though it could finally be plugged. Step forward Steven Gerrard.
The Gerrard England fans know and Liverpool fans love is not the one we need for England. The Liverpool talisman can leave his ‘best kid in the playground’ attitude at Anfield. When he is on England duty he is asked for discipline, width and a sprinkle of magic.
For too long Gerrard has been trying desperately to show the international game exactly how good he is. Capello though seems to be all about the team rather than indulging in his players reputations (think Sven Goran Eriksson with Beckham and McClaren with Wazza, Stevie G and John Terry)
The other problem solved by Gerrard’s ‘demotion’ to the left is the break of the much maligned Gerrard/Lampard duopoly in central midfield. The mystery behind Gerrard and Lampard not playing to their individual potential when both in midfield is now irrelevant as the balance between defence and attack seems to have been restored with Gareth Barry.
Also, in sacrificing a 40 goal England legend and replacing him with Wigan’s work horse Emile Heskey, Fabio Capello has given England fans the miraculous and all too rare sight – the real Wayne Rooney scoring goals and frightening defences…….. regularly.
The only thing for Capello to do now is to carry on the good work. Oh, and perhaps make Rio Ferdinand England’s full time captain, but, that’s for another day.
Can we now blissfully look forward to a successful and pain free next 2 years under Capello? Come off it! It wouldn’t be England if there wasn’t a crisis looming. For now, let’s enjoy the unfamiliar circumstance of seeing England fulfil their potential………

I think that Capello has put confidence in the England Team but the problems still remain!! We have too many star in one team!! We need a mix of great players and starts!! Look at Barry and Gerrard they play well together but if lampard played they dont play well together because they are both big stars!!
