Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has called BBC’s Football coverage, Old fashioned and “run of the mill”, after quitting the show after several years.
Wright is fed up playing the funny man and complained that he was unhappy with his role in the BBC’s football coverage. “I feel like I’m just there as a comedy jester to break the ice with Alan Shearer and Alan Hansen who just do run-of-the-mill things, I can’t do that anymore. People want something different.”
I think he is right. Personally I could do without all the crap talk and childish graphics, it teaches us nothing anymore. It was innovative when Andy Gray and the Sky team introduced it, but these days we know as much as the professional pundits.
In my view we have too much information. I want to watch football not hear someone prattling on about it. If I wanted that I would be down the pub!
To be honest Wrighty has never looked entirely comfortable as a football pundit and he will be better off out of it. But lets hope the BBC take on board his comments and consider some new ideas for a show that is now getting very long in the tooth.
What’s the chances?
