John Gregory would be the worst football manager I’ve ever seen down at Fratton Park. There will be no shedding of tears for John Gregory on the south coast on his latest dismissal from management at Queens Park Rangers. Sucking lemons leaves less of a bitter taste than the memories of the Gregory year at Portsmouth. An utterly dismal record of only 10 wins from 50 matches is actually his worst return on his generally unspectacular career to date. You could maybe forgive his ineptitude on it being his first managerial appointment, but he’s been able to replicate his inability to coach teams to success every where he’s managed with the exception of Aston Villa. Possibly Villa are deserving of his return, after throwing away a 4-1 lead at Spurs, the new contenders for the ‘too good to be relegated award’.
Whilst not overly being a fan of Gillingham especially after witnessing a dismal performance away on a cold boxing day back in 2001 under the guise of Rix, I’d not wish either Rix or the newly available Gregory on them. A recently liberated Mad Dog could quite possibly see Gillingham prosper. Allen with both experience of lower league football and over ego’d chairman should find himself well at home at Priestfield.
