Liverpool finally get their man, but wait it’s not Gareth Barry the player they have been courting all summer, it’s Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane.
I must admit to being surprised at the move given what Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had to say recently when he was writing up a report for the FA, concerning the tapping up of his club captain.
But it has happened and reading through the football forums it’s like the Gareth Barry saga never happened, with Reds fans once again declaring the latest signing as ‘the final piece of the jigsaw.’
Everything obviously hinges on how well Fernando Torres and Keane can gel- but early reports from Rafa Benitez suggesting that Keane can play on the right wing, are I am sure unfounded.
Keane is expected to feature in Liverpools friendly at Villareal on wednesday, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long to see.
Meanwhile Spurs must be more than happy with the reported £20million fee for a player of 28 years old, although it is possible that Liverpool threw in a few extra million to appease the Tottenham chairman over the tapping up scandal.
It will be just as interesting to see where Spurs spend the funds, assuming that they will be made available to Ramos. The usual names of David Villa and Silva are being strongly tipped by the press, but it would be a real surprise if either player could be tempted to the Premier league.
Spurs could use the money to save the blushes of Zenit St Peterburg, by buying Russian midfielder Arshavin, but I am sure the club have priced the player out of the market.

It looks very likely that Spurs will be spending most of the money of David Bentley. I’m not sure where that leaves Aaron Lennon.
As for £20 million for Robbie Keane. I am shocked. I am interested to see how this pans out, but really don’t think he is worth that sort of money.
How much did they sell Peter Crouch for? And how many goals per games ratio did he achieve for Liverpool?
