Chelsea dropped two points against Wigan at Stamford Bridge when Emile Heskey volleyed home an equaliser in the last minute of the game, leaving the blues dream of the premiership title hanging by a thread.
How often have Chelsea won or salvaged a game in the dying minutes, this time the boot was firmly on the other foot. One point for Wigan moving them six points clear of the relegation battle.
Another uninspiring game for the Londoners leaves you wondering how Chelsea are in second place in the league at all. It would be a travesty indeed if they were to end up winning the title, with United Arsenal and Liverpool playing much better football for most of the season.
For a while though as Arsenal’s season imploded it looked like Chelsea were sitting pretty. Now they must hope that Grant can do what Mourinho was unable to do and beat Liverpool in the Champions League and win a place in the final. I can’t see it happening.
It all looks certain to lead to a mass exodus from the club in the summer, starting I suspect with Avram Grant.
