Kevin Keegan named Newcastle manager

John Williams - Wednesday 16.01.08, 18:26pm

So Mike Ashley has turned to King Kev Keegan to be new manager at Newcastle. A popular choice I would have thought, his is the team that the Toon Army judge the current team. If nothing else we can welcome Keegan back in the hope that he will recreate the halcyon days of his own brand of total  football at St James Park.

Whether Keegan will include Alan Shearer to partner him, is at this stage to early to say, but Newcastle would be silly not to break him in as assistant sooner rather than later as he is still the man that the fans would want to take over if and when Keegan were to go.

this was a bit of a shock. they didn’t look very hard for a new manager. they can’t keep on doing the same thing over and over again. they have to put effort into getting a manager that will take the team forward…not saying he’s not going to do a good job, but they seem to just want quick fixes.

It will all end in tears with Keegan quitting the job because he can’t take the pressure.

I really thought he was going to get the job, but surprised as I thought it would only be as one half of the ‘dream ticket’. I saw the chairman thinking it’s a win – win situation & a way of getting the fans on his side, but I also think they need to prime Shearer for the position.

Does it seem funny to anyone else that previous reports were all about Shearer not being interested & he was happy as MOTD half time analyst but as soon as reporters stopped asking him then it was all about how he would love the job – this is my team, my love, my area – and if Newcastle were to call he would take the job!

Maybe Keegan doesn’t want to share the limelight – just yet!
