Everton defender Joleon Lescott is set to replace the injured Ashley Cole at left back for the England qualifier in Moscow tomorrow. Cole who was carried off, during saturdays win over Estonia at Wembley, is still awaiting the results of a scan on his ankle injury.
It was expected that Coles replacement would most likely be Reading defender Nicky Shorey, but latest reports suggest that Steve McClaren is ready to offer Lescot his first full start for England.
While the Everton defender has played mainly in the centre of defence this season, he frequently played on the left during last year.
McClaren looks set to reward the players that have prospered over the last couple of games, with Frank Lampard again likely to be named as a sub. John Terry however is surprisingly back training and is very likely to captain the England team in this crucial clash against Russia.
A win for England would achieve qualification with a game in hand, while a draw would leave them still needing a point from Wembleys game against Croatia in November.
