The fight for the Premiership title became a two horse race following this weekends results, with Arsenal’s outside chances disappearing following their draw with Manchester City and wins for both Manchester United and Chelsea.
It is Chelsea, just one point clear of United with two games to go, who face the toughest task in next weeks fixtures with a visit to Anfield, while United face a much less daunting (on paper at least) away game to Sunderland.
While Liverpool will still fancy their chances of a fourth place Champions league spot, Sunderland really only have their honour to protect.
That’s not to suggest a that United will be gifted three points, this season has already proven that nothing can be taken from granted and Sunderland have already had their say in the title fight with a draw at Old Trafford and wins at the Stadium of Light against Arsenal and Liverpool.
Liverpool’s indifferent season leaves them frantically fighting three other teams for the final Champions League place, and nothing less than a win against Chelsea will be acceptable.
So where will the Liverpool fans allegiance lie this weekend, a win for their team will seriously dent Chelsea’s ambitions of winning the title and if United grab three points from Sunderland it won’t be game over, but it will give Fergie’s team the initiative with one game to play in the league race.
For the fans, United winning yet another title and moving ahead of Liverpool in the total number of titles won would be catastrophe, could they possibly live with themselves knowing that they had played a very real part in curtailing Chelsea’s title hopes and allowing United to take the upper hand.
I am wondering how many Liverpool fans are facing the dilemma of hoping that their team are beaten by Chelsea next weekend at the risk of missing out on their own league quest, but to avoid seeing United going into the last game with a ponts advantage.

Here’s the quandary and I blame the FA. Liverpool are playing Chelsea @ 1.30pm and Man Utd play @ 4pm. If Man Utd played @ 1.30 and lost then Liverpool would try to beat Chelsea, but as it happens it’s a fore gone conclusion. Liverpool 0 Chelsea 1 (Steven Gerard OG 90mins)

I think the majority of true reds would want to see a Chelsea win, anything to stop United winning that 19th title. hopefully with Saturday’s results fourth place will be beyond Liverpool so it won’t be a great dilemma for the home fans.

It is all about Liverpool players looking ahead to the World Cup now. Nothing to play for, rubbish season and they will be glad to play for their national teams.
Then they can think about whether they actually want to stay at Liverpool or not!!
