Everton manager David Moyes has heaped pressure on local rivals Liverpool by insisting that the Anfield team should be able to clinch the fourth spot in the Premier league.
Everton are currently three points ahead of Liverpool with the Reds having a game in hand. But it is Everton that have had the better run of results since the start of this year, while Liverpool’s inconsistency has been blamed on everything from in club politics to Rafa’s rotation policy.
However the bookies make Benitez’s team the favourites to clinch the fourth spot and Moyes accepts that that should be the case, saying:
“We are doing everything we can to make a fight of it but Liverpool have to be favourites, still. We have been consistent but for them fourth would be expected. The bookies are right to make them favourites.”
Of course you can write off Aston Villa at your peril, they did everything right at Arsenal on Saturday only to see two points disappear before their eyes, in literally the last seconds of the game. They are, like Everton slogging quietly away getting results as the mighty Liverpool attempt to string a winning sequence together.
