Man City’s next transfer target

Terry Lane - Wednesday 21.01.09, 16:29pm

Listening to TalkSport yesterday Danny Kelly & ex-footballer Ray Houghton spoke of talk from fellow presenters Rodney Marsh and Stan Collymore both alluded to having information that Manchester City were about to launch a serious bid for a star player with a top Premiership team.

So who can it be?

John Terry’s name has been mentioned several times but I really can’t see Terry wanting to move away from Chelsea all the time there is the possibility of making amends for his Champions League final penalty disaster.  In fact the only “star” player for Chelsea that would be tempted to move to Manchester for a large sum of money is the out of favour Didier Drogba.

Scolari has left Drogba out of the squad for the last two games, after his shocking performance against Manchester United.  Could Drogba be Manchester City’s next target?  He is definitely a different striker to Craig Bellamy, so would give them options going forward.

There’s not many star players looking to move at such a critical time in the season; and by “top club” who are they referring to?  Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool?

Rodney Marsh has connections with Man City and Stan Collymore has connections with Aston Villa, but would Martin O’ Neil and Randy Learner seriously consider selling any of their top players in the January transfer window?

I’m not a Man City fan but was really looking forward to this January transfer window and hoping to see Mark Hughes arrange some big money transfer deals.  Kaka has come and gone.

So far the January transfer window has been very disappointing.
