Manchester transfer news

John Williams - Friday 02.01.09, 17:00pm

Despite the huge points difference between the Manchester teams, Manchester City find themselves as the club most likely to spend BIG in the January transfer window, while United have already insisted hat they will not be tempted.

So the news that Manchester United have completed a deal to sign two young Serbian’s from Partizan Belgrade should not come as a shock, given Ferguson’s ability to constantly talk in riddles.

Left winger Zoran Tosic, already a regular in the Serbian international side and still only 21 and Adem Ljajic a promising 17 year old midfielder have joined United for a combined fee believed to be around £16m – not small change.

While Tosic will join the United squad at Old Trafford, Ljajic will spend the rest of the season at Partizan on loan and move to United at the end of the year.

Manchester City have made their first big player move, having agreed a fee with Chelsea for the England full back Wayne Bridge. City manager Mark Hughes has known the player since his days at Southampton where Hughes’s career was ending as Bridge’s started.

They still have to agree personal terms but if he goes it will be a boost for Bridge who has spent recent seasons as understudy to Ashley Cole, both with Chelsea and England.
