Most reports regarding Newcastle are suggesting that Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is top of owner Mike Ashley’s list to replace Sam Allardyce at St James Park.
Having been rebuffed by first choice Harry Redknapp last week, speculation has been rife over a suitable replacement for Big Sam. In fact Harry may have been guilty of taking his eye off the game as Portsmouth lost out to lowly Sunderland yesterday.
Whether Mark Hughes is interested in the job remains to be seen but it has emerged that former Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan has not ruled himself out of the running. His name has been linked with Alan Shearer as a possible managerial partnership at St James and this combination is fast becoming the bookies choice.
Keegan famously took his cavalier footballing side to within a whisker of the title in 1996 before quitting the job in 1997. His style of football has long been admired by the Newcastle fans and alongside Geordie legend Shearer would tick most of the boxes for the faithful fans.
