The January transfer window has thrown up the usual abundance of speculation and rumour mongering that we have become used to, with some of the top players suddenly having ridiculous price tags attached to them in the hope that suitors will look elsewhere. Berbatov of Spurs at 30 million and Ronaldo75 million would surely scare even the likes of big spenders Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Nice to see then that Derby County boss Paul Jewell has wasted no time in securing the services of Danny Mills on loan from Manchester City, to add a bit of grit to the Rams defence. County have also signed 25 year old Argentinian striker Emanuel Villa from Mexican club UAG Tecos, on a permanent deal of around 2 million.
Former Newcastle and Portsmouth winger Laurent Robert has also been offered a trial with Derby, with Jewell commenting, “We will have to have a look at him and see what condition he is in, because we are desperately short of numbers”.
Robert’s skills are sadly missed in the premier league, but he was never one to enjoy getting stuck in, and right now that is what the Rams are in need of. The Frenchman is available after his contract with Spanish club Levante was cancelled.
County are also amongst several clubs looking to secure the services of out of favour Blackburn hard man Robbie Savage, as they fight for premier league survival.
