Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has predicted that the Premier League will become a rich mans playground in the future with 20 billionaires slugging it out for league dominance.
He believes that an investment of £150million to £200million would be required to turn a club into a serious contender to the leagues dominant ‘top four.’
Kevin Keegan has already suggested that without substantial investment it would be impossible to compete with the dominant teams in the league, and the best that anyone could hope for next season is fifth place.
Is money the answer? Many will argue that Chelsea have bought success, but it is true to say that Manchester United and Liverpool have also invested heavily over the years.
There is no doubt that Ambramovich’s riches have upped the ante in today’s game and a lot of football fans resent him for it, but it has brought success to the club and in these days where obscene amounts of money do the talking, I think both Redknapp and Keegan have a point.
