On the BBC today it is reported that Derby have had an offer for Robbie Savage accepted and County are now negotiating a deal with the player. Savage is the type of player that you need when the going gets tough, and how Derby could do with him now. Along with loan signing Danny Mills, Savage will surely supply the bite that Derby have lacked so far this season. Even at 33 years old Savage has attracted some keen interest from other premier league clubs.
Frenchman Laurent Robert has also been signed up by the Rams until the end of the season.
Meanwhile Bolton have reportedly rejected Chelsea’s offer for the services of Nicolas Anelka. It is thought that the Blues had offered 12 million and Bolton will expect them to come back with something nearer their own valuation of 18 million. Having paid 8m for the striker in 2006 and at 28 years old it looks like Bolton are playing a bold game to me.
Liverpool are expected to announce the 6 million pound signing of 23 year old Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel from Zenit St Petersburg, later today.
Marseille have told Manchester City that former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is categorically not for sale.
Portsmouth have signed 18 year old Swiss striker Danijel Subotic from Basle for an undisclosed fee. Harry Redknapp sees the youngster as one for the future while his current need is for three or four experienced players to plug the gaps left by his African Nations Cup quartet.
