Rio Ferdinand to Captain England

Terry Lane - Tuesday 25.03.08, 20:13pm

Rio Ferdinand has been confirmed as England captain for tomorrow’s international friendly against France in Paris tomorrow night.

Fabio Capello has also confirmed that David Beckham will gain his 100th England cap.

Does this suggest Capello has doubts about John Terry? Is it his ability or his form that Capello isn’t sure about? Or possibly John Terry’s temperament.

Apparently, Capello told the players as they were sitting around a table after eating lunch.

It is so refreshing to know that the England players are being kept on their toes and must feel there has been such a sea change from the days of McLaren and Sven Goran Eriksson where the order of the day was the same big name players for every game whether they were in form or not, flip flops, PSP’s, and time away with the WAGS!

Capello has already shaken up the England culture for these overpaid prima donnas. Let’s hope he gets the results to match the respect he is rightfully getting from the players.
