Sam Allardyce to be next Blackburn manager?

Sam Allardyce - Favourite to replace Mark Hughes at Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn continue their search for a successor to Mark Hughes. Make no mistake about it, finding someone who can do the same job as Hughes did will not be easy. Blackburn may have a great history but in today’s super club climate Rovers are certainly punching above their weight and to keep the Lancashire side in the company they have become accustomed to will be a difficult task.

On Wednesday night Alan Shearer officially ruled himself out of the running for the post, stating that he had too many other commitments to attend to. This becomes the second time Shearer has turned down one of his former clubs where he had been a hero in favour of the BBC, you would have thought that if he was going to take a managerial job then it would be at either Newcastle or Blackburn. I did hope he would take the job just so we wouldn’t have to listen to him covering the Euro’s on the BBC but never mind.

So who is there left to bet on?

So that leaves us with a host of other candidates all looking to take up the Blackburn post, it just remains to be seen who the Rovers board of directors decides to appoint as the new manager. It has to be said they did a brilliant job with their last appointment but I would have to say its slim picking from the list they have established of potential head coaches. I don’t think any Blackburn fan will want to see Steve McClaren in charge.

I believe Blackburn Rovers should give Paul Ince a chance to prove he can coach at the highest level. He has already worked wonders in his short managerial career, albeit with MK Dons and Macclesfield but he has earned his stripes in the lower leagues and deserves to be given a chance.

But appointing someone like Paul Ince would be a gamble and Blackburn may stick with the safe choice of Sam Allardyce. Big Sam has proven he can keep a Premier League side in the top half of the table, his style of management would suit Blackburn and you feel he would do a job, if an unspectacular one.
