Despite the plan being dismissed at every level of the game, Premier League boss Richard Scudamore remains adamant that the idea of playing a 39th game abroad will not be consigned to the bin.
The Daily Mirror reports that questioned by MPs on the Commons sports committee yesterday, Scudamore admitted that his £100 million plan had “huge challenges to sort out.” He then went on to list the priorities as:
One: Sorting out the fixtures.
Two: Getting international football bodies to agree.

Three: Sorting out the League’s problems of sides playing an odd number of games against each other.
And finally, FOUR: The fans’ reaction.
When the plan was first announced I had reservations, but considered that at least someone in charge of the game was showing some initiative and forward thinking, unlike the prima donnas of the FA.
But with all the criticism that has been thrown at the idea especially from the FIFA, the fact that it may damage chances of England holding a World cup final, the fact that Asia and North America are not really interested, that Premier league teams are sceptical, but mostly that the football fans that pay to watch their team week in week out, are considered of little importance, makes me think that either the plan or Scudamore should go. Preferably both.
As Adrian Sanders Lib Dem MP for Torquay said, “Why not come to Devon and have a 39th game ?”
