Sir Bobby Robson has died this morning (Friday July 31) after a long and determined battle against cancer.
One of the true gentleman of English football Sir Bobby is best remembered as being the England manager who took the team to the World Cup semi finals in 1990, but had won trophies throughout his managerial career in Holland, Portugal, Spain and England.
In his playing career Robson played for Fulham and West Bromwich Albion and briefly for Vancouver Royals in a career spanning twenty years. He played for England twenty times and scored four goals.
His years as manager of unfashionable Ipswich Town established Robson as a successful club manager, winning the EUFA cup in 1981 among other notable achievements. Robson was made honorary president of Ipswich Town as a mark of his achievements at the club.
Sir Bobby has battled with cancer since 1991 and in August 2008 finally admitted that no more could be done.
Thanks for the memories, Sir Bobby Robson.
