Special one rules himself out

John Williams - Monday 10.12.07, 18:56pm

With the news breaking that Jose Mourinho has now ruled himself out of the running, for the England managers vacancy, my preference from the “usual suspects” would be Jurgen Klinsmann.

Not an obvious choice , perhaps, and probably not a popular one. But compare the England team to that of other countries playing styles and the only one near it is Germany. Klinsmann took an under performing German national team, and in last summers World Cup finals, had them playing arguably the most exciting football of the tournament.

The players adapted to Klinsmann in a very short time and looked more like a club side with their understanding of each others play. They went on to finish 3rd after being written off by many.

I fancy some of that. I believe that Klinsmann is the man, has the qualities, and is one of the only foreign contenders that can speak perfect English. He has also lived here and of course played football here for Spurs.

Interesting viewpoint, and yes, controversial. There was certainly a hint of racism when Jurgen Klinsmann was mentioned as one of the forerunners. I agree Klinsmann’s time at Spurs & the fact that he can speak fluent English must be considered. However, if he was available I believe Guus Hoodink would be perfect. As for the bookies favouirte Fabio Capello, I cannot imagine having an England Manager who speaks through an interpreter.
