Sunday Premier League

John Williams - Sunday 23.03.08, 22:00pm

Sir Alex Ferguson must have been chuckling like Dick Dastardly, at half time in United’s Sunday Premier league game with Liverpool. He had just seen his side on top for most of the first half, taking the lead and then Liverpool going down to ten men on the stroke of half time.

Everything was falling into place for the wiley old fox of the premier league, but even so Liverpool fought a hard contest to keep United from increasing their lead, It took until the 79th minute for United to score through Ronaldo, and followed quickly with the killer from Nani.

So United look to be firmly in the driving seat as things stand with Chelsea leapfrogging Arsenal into second place, five points behind the defending champions.

Chelsea went behind to Arsenal but fought back with two goals from Drogba, to take three points, and overtake their London rivals.

All but the most faithful would have to admit Liverpool’s slim chance of the title is over.

After the United result in the early kick off, what was the best resut from Man U’s perspective in the other game?

Chelsea, despite all the stick that Avram Grant has been getting, are simply refusing to go away, and the title is, as SAF says, far from over. I think a draw would have been the best result for the red half of Manchester, or even an Arsenal win.

Lets remember the fixtures: United travel to Chelsea, whilst they play hosts to Arsenal. How long has it been since Chelsea lost at home? years hey. Still, a draw at Stamford bridge should probably be enough, although as well as the visit of Arsenal, Utd have tricky away trips to Boro and Blackburn.
