Jermaine Pennant has agreed to join Portsmouth on a short term loan deal until the end of the season, when his contract expires with Liverpool. Pennant who turned down a transfer to Portsmouth last week has agreed to a loan period. Tony Adams sees the winger as the perfect partner for Peter Crouch and his crossing ability will surely add some fire to the Pompey forward line.
Tony Adams is also hoping to talk another old Arsenal team mate into joining Portsmouth, he says he would love to bring Patrick Vieira back to the premier league, preferably on a loan deal. The midfielder is currently out of action with an injury so any talks with his employers Inter Milan will have to wait until he is fit again. It would certainly be interesting to see Vieira back in the English league.
You would think it was Spurs rather than Manchester City with the big money to spend to splash around, they continue to buy in the Martin Jol/Juande Ramos style, the latest signing is Wilson Palacios from Wigan for around £12/14million, depending on which paper you read, although it is subject to the player getting a work permit.
In a Daily Mail exclusive Spurs are also said to have signed Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini for a fee of £1million. The North Londoners are also said to interested in Inter Milan’s Marco Materazzi, the former Everton centre back, while Milan say no approach has been made.
Chelsea’s Didier Drogba has spoken about his love of former club Marseille and Valencia are interested in team mate Florent Malouda.
Arsenal target Andrei Arshavin’s hopes of moving to the Emirates are looking slim as his current team Zenit St Petersburg prefer to shoot themselves in the foot rather than accept a sensible price for their over rated midfielder. Manchester City could eventually come to the players rescue, but they are currently tracking Chelsea’s Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic.
And finally Robinho is anxious for Chelsea to rescue him from Manchester City according to the Sun newspaper!
