Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Sven Goran Eriksson’s Manchester City at St James’ Park yesterday, their third successive defeat.
Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has publicly backed Sam Allardyce, who confesses he is under pressure & after just 21 Premier League games his position is becoming increasingly precarious.
The BBC report Allardyce as saying: “The support is great, but at the end of the day, the pressure still mounts, it mounts despite that support.
“A team like us should not be losing at home. A team like us should not be losing three games on the trot.”
Personally i don’t think its the losing games that is the main problem for the Newcastle fans and board but the style in which they are playing. They are currently 11th in the Premier League and after their best Premier League start to a season for several years, will not face a relegation battle unless they lose every game from hereon. If Allardyce had the team playing exciting football or even showing some style and commitment in their defeats, I don’t think he would be under the pressure he is.
Newcastle are away to an in form Stoke City on Sunday in the F.A. Cup 3rd round. A Stoke win would place the Newcastle chairman under extreme pressure to sack Sam Allardyce.
