William Gallas throws his gloves out the pram

Terry Lane - Friday 21.11.08, 10:31am

Last night news broke that William Gallas had thrown his gloves out of his pram once again.

William Gallas has candidly exposed the rumours of dressing room bust ups and in-fighting at Arsenal, are all true.  He singles-out one player imparticular who he believes is a root cause of the unrest, and though he doesn’t wish to name him, all fingers are pointing at Robin Van Persie.

“There was a problem at half-time of the 4-4 draw with Tottenham,” he said. “The only thing that I could say at half-time was ‘guys, we resolve these problems after the match, not at half-time.” Gallas told the Associated Press.

Gallas also revealed that on a separate occasion some Arsenal players had been insulted by one of their own team-mates. Again, this is suggested to be Van Persie.

Absolutely everyone I’ve heard comment on the Arsenal Captain’s outburst is shocked by the things he said to an Associated Press journalist this week while in France on international duty.

But this is the same man who, as captain sat in the middle of the pitch last season after a 2-2 draw at Birmingham, not shaking hands with the opposition, appreciating the travelling fans or leading the players off the pitch.

This is the same William Gallas who sulked because at Chelsea Jose Mourinho preferred Ricardo Carvalho as a centre-back and so he told the club he would score own goals on purpose unless they sold him to Arsenal!

Personally, I think William Gallas is one of the best centre-backs in the world, and the partnership he struck up with John Terry at Chelsea was phenomenal.  But it seems like this character is both very arrogant and very vunerable to mood swings and childish tantrums.

Few can question the likes of Arsene Wenger but I was very surprised when he stripped Gilberto of the Arsenal captaincy and made Gallas his captain.  Its clear, Arsenal are missing a leader with the captain qualities of a Tony Adams or Patrick Viera.  Someone who leads by example, not sulks when they fail to win or makes outrageous remarks to the press about his own team-mates and the club’s in-house fighting.

Listening to TalkSport last night it was stated by a French commentator that the quotes were all true and had not been misquoted or lost in translation – this is the real deal.

Do you think Arsene Wenger will strip William Gallas of his captaincy when Arsenal visit Manchester City in the Premiership this weekend?

And do you think this outburst has anything to do with William Gallas releasing his autobiography in a couple of week’s time?

It’s all part of Abramovich’s long-term plan to undermine the top London club. Gallas is obviously a double-agent, and I’m sure he’s being handsomely rewarded for his treachery. However, it’ll take a great more than this for a flash-in-the-pan club to usurp us.
