Despite looking fitter, slimmer and healthier than he did when he left Real Madrid, the fans that went to see the Football against Poverty charity game, in Malaga, gave the Brazilian star a rather muted welcome.
In contrast to the reception enjoyed by his opposite number Zidane, the fans perhaps found it difficult to recognise the former rotund player now sporting a glorious head of hair.
In fact ex Formula 1 champion, Michael Schumacher received the second loudest cheer of the night as he came on to bolster Ronaldo’s team. Ronaldo played just twenty minutes of the game while Zidane managed over an hour.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw and while these games lack the atmosphere of competitive league games, it was all about footballing art and skills and a memorable night it was too.
